The Pichvai
Handcrafted in Jaipur · Est. 1897Pichvai — the painted-cloth tradition of Nathdwara, the art form that has rendered Shrinathji for three centuries in the particular manner that the temple permits and the painter understands. To wear a Pichvai motif is to carry devotion at the wrist as a quiet inheritance rather than a public declaration.
The Pichvai is a fusion cuff, crafted in 925 sterling silver with an oxidised finish. At its centre, a hand-painted miniature of Shrinathji in the Nathdwara Pichvai tradition is set behind glass, each brushstroke laid by an artist trained in a lineage four generations deep. The painting is flanked above and below by two emerald-cut green stones. On either side of the central medallion, White Kundan Polki florets are set on turquoise, and turquoise beads close the ends of the cuff. Hand-hammered and engraved silver leaf motifs form the body of the cuff. A one-size-fit-all cuff. Anti-tarnish e-coated. An NBJ exclusive.
Gemstone Wisdom. Turquoise is among the oldest protective stones in the world — associated across Indian and Persian traditions with good fortune, calm communication, and shielding its wearer from harm. Paired with the Shrinathji painting, it carries the devotional quality of the piece at the material level.
Style Tip: The Pichvai is for the woman who wears her culture as a considered choice rather than a costume. Handloom cotton, raw silk, ivory, or deep indigo. Worn alone, as the single piece at the wrist. Devotion does not require company.
