The Laajward
Handcrafted in Jaipur · Est. 1897Laajward — the Persian word for lapis lazuli, the deepest blue of the ancient trade routes that connected Afghanistan to Jaipur. Carried alongside the emerald green of the Indian kundan tradition, the Laajward cuff holds both colours as they have been held for four centuries: the blue of the trade, the green of the land.
The Laajward is a fusion cuff, crafted in 925 sterling silver with a two-tone finish. A large square hand-carved green stone sits at the centre; twin gold peacocks flank it. At either end of the cuff, a large cabochon lapis lazuli carries a gold paisley leaf motif in relief — the paisley lifted by hand in the Jaipur repoussé tradition. An openwork silver jaali completes the cuff body. A one-size-fit-all cuff. Anti-tarnish e-coated. An NBJ exclusive.
Gemstone Wisdom. Lapis lazuli — the stone of kings, of scribes, of the Sufi poets — has been associated across Persian and Indian traditions with truth, inner vision, and the quality of speaking only what matters. The hand-carved green stone at the centre carries the balance of earth alongside that sky-blue wisdom.
Style Tip: The Laajward is a daywear statement — Persian in palette, contemporary in silhouette. Wear with handwoven cotton or raw silk in natural tones. Lapis prefers company that does not compete.
