About This Piece

Gajdant — the tusk of the elephant, the symbol most associated with Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. It is both weapon and writing instrument; in Sanskrit mythology, Ganesha broke off his own tusk to use as a pen to transcribe the Mahabharata. It is the symbol of sacrifice in service of knowledge.

Crafted in 925 sterling silver with a two-tone finish, The Gajdant features a pendant in the unmistakable form of a tusk or tooth — a shape that carries its mythological reference without stating it. Turquoise round beads and cream dholki beads compose the thread sarafa from which it hangs. The dholki cut — drum-shaped, a specifically Jaipuri tradition — gives the beads a tactile irregularity that complements the organic form of the pendant. Finished with anti-tarnish e-coating.

Gemstone Wisdom. Turquoise has been carried as a protective talisman across every civilisation that traded through Rajasthan — associated with calm, good fortune, and the protection of its wearer from harm and misfortune.

Style Tip: Natural fabrics — raw silk, linen, tussar — suit this necklace exactly. The Gajdant belongs to the wardrobe of the woman who travels with intention and dresses for comfort without sacrificing beauty.
