About This Piece

The sikkamala — the garland of coins — is among the oldest forms of Indian adornment, predating the organised jewellery trade by centuries. Worn by royalty as a mark of prosperity and by devotees as an offering, each coin carried not just metal but intention. This necklace revives that language for the present.

Crafted in 925 sterling silver with a two-tone finish, The Sikkamala features multiple coin medallions graduated along a pink and green braided thread sarafa, each stamped with a different sacred motif — the four-petal flower, the lotus, the Lakshmi face, the sun's rays, the deity's crown. The two-tone finish alternates gold and oxidised silver across the coin surfaces, giving each medallion its own depth. The karigar who makes these coins works in repoussé — the motif raised from behind, shaped by hand. Finished with anti-tarnish e-coating.

Style Tip: A plain silk — deep red, forest green, or midnight blue — lets each medallion read individually. The Sikkamala is too precise and too particular to be worn against embroidery. Give it a simple ground and it will carry the entire occasion.
