The Shikhi
Handcrafted in Jaipur · Est. 1897Shikhi — the crested one, the ancient Sanskrit name for the peacock. In the Puranas, the peacock is the vehicle of Kartikeya, god of war and strategy — the bird who stands guard, whose thousand-eyed feathers miss nothing. Against a dark ground, the peacock is not ornamental. It is sovereign.
Crafted in 925 sterling silver with an oxidised finish, The Shikhi is built around a large tribal peacock pendant of exceptional scale — the bird rendered in full oxidised detail, every contour of the feather and crown visible. Two tabeez pendants flank the central peacock on each side, each hung with ghungroos whose sound accompanies every movement. Black onyx round beads compose the strand; an adjustable thread sarafa allows the length to be worn at the chest or lower. The karigar who makes tribal pendants of this scale works in the lost-wax casting tradition — each mould broken once, each piece unique. Finished with anti-tarnish e-coating.
Gemstone Wisdom. Black onyx is the stone of steady strength — worn by those who carry authority without advertising it, who protect their energy without closing themselves off. It is the stone of the long game.
Style Tip: Black, deep charcoal, or midnight — The Shikhi does not share its occasion. It is the piece for the woman who walks into a room and does not require the room to adjust; the room simply does. Wear it alone and with intention.
