About This Piece

Lajward — the Persian name for lapis lazuli. The stone of pharaohs, the stone that the Mughal court ground into pigment for the blue of their miniatures. The stone that has been significant for four thousand years and has not stopped being significant for a single day of them.

A corrugated silver bar at the top. Below it, an oval lapis lazuli cabochon in a plain silver bezel. Hook wire. 925 sterling silver, silver finish. Anti-tarnish e-coated. The deep navy blue of the lapis — with its characteristic gold pyrite inclusions that look exactly like stars — is the entire composition.

Gemstone Wisdom. Lapis lazuli carries the energy of inner wisdom, inner truth, and the deep sovereignty of those who know themselves. In the Vedic tradition and the Egyptian one and the Mesopotamian one before that, lapis has always been worn by those who needed to speak from a place of complete authority. This earring is for that.

Style Tip: Navy, indigo, midnight blue, or ivory — the Lajward is not a quiet earring despite its small size. The stone carries more authority per millimetre than almost any other in this collection. Wear it with the outfit that deserves it.
